Notice to Trap Shooters

Due to the increased price of the Clay Birds that we received last week, we have had to increase the price of a round of trap to $4.00 per round or 6 rounds for $20.00. The price increase is effective immediately. We have been able to hold the price for over 5 years but bird prices have increased considerably.

BRC Board Member Changes

There have been several Board of Directors position changes during the last months. Changes are as follows:

Civilian Markmanship (CMP): New Director Greg Davis replaces Pete Taylor.

Archery: New Assistant Director position has been created and has been filled by George Riesselmann.

Silhouette: New Assistant Director Tim Jaedike replaces Toby Allison.

Grounds Keeper: New Assistant Director Bruce Caulkins replaces Dennis Williams.

Cowboy Action: Bruce Nygren has taken over the Director position from Mike Kobelt.

Safety Wall Between Archery and the Main Range

The Safety Wall between Archery and the Main Range has been replaced and both ranges are fully functional again. Thanks to all the workers who came out on Wednesday 7/10 to complete the effort. Special thanks to Roger Hager and Wally Marshall for all the effort up front allowing this job to be completed.

Range Construction

Completion of the Silhouette Roofing Project

The steel roof on the Silhouette Range is complete. We had 12 workers who worked a LONG 11 hour work day on Saturday 7/13 to complete the job. Thanks to all these dedicated workers.

The turnout for the last two workdays has been very poor! If this trend continues, the club will have to re-evaluate how we approach large projects in the future. Maybe we will have to pay to have them done and end up doing a lot less work for the club. Maybe we increase the cost to members of not performing work hours? Is that what the membership wants? Please reconsider your support and plan on helping us out more in the future. We are a club of over 1100 members and a small group of 10-12 people on workdays does not make for a successful club.

BRC Holster Drawing Certification

Intent:
The purpose of this mandatory certification process is to allow select Beloit Rifle Club (BRC) members to be permitted to draw a loaded handgun from a holster in practice at the BRC Defense Range.

Structure of Certification:
The certification will consist of three parts. The first part is to read the entire policy. The second part is a classroom portion where the rules of the policy will be covered, your gear will be inspected, and a quick demonstration of the required skills will be provided. The final part of the certification is a practical demonstration of skills.

Administration:
The administrators*** are responsible for the administration of this certification, curriculum and testing procedure development and application. A certification may be revoked or suspended at any time by the BRC Board, or their designee, including Range Officers (RO) or Match Directors.

After successful completion of all criteria, the member will be issued a lanyard that must be displayed while shooting on the defensive range.

There is a one-time $10.00 fee for the certification. This may change by order of the Board of Directors.

*** Administrators are a group consisting of Defensive Range, Multi-gun and NRA Instructor board members. They will oversee any future instructors. ?

UPDATE 1/1/2019: Message from the President Regarding the Bylaws Changes

I am removing the bylaw change from the agenda for the Jan 2, 2019 Annual Meeting. Per our bylaws we have not handled it correctly so due to procedural error issues it will be sent back to committee.

<Julie

It has come to my attention that there is some confusion and misinformation going around about the up coming bylaw change vote. I would like to take a moment to try and explain it so everyone is on the same page.

Article VI – MATCH RULES

Current rule states:  All rifle and revolver or pistol competitions held by the corporation shall be governed by the rules and regulations laid down by the National Rifle Association of America, approved by the National Board for the Promotion of Rifle Practice and the Secretary of the Army.

  • Only matches governed by the NRA or CMP qualify to be run at BRC.
    • This only includes: Bullseye, Silhouette/Black Powder Cartridge, High Power, CMP & Air Rifle.
    • This excludes Archery, Black Powder, Trap, Benchrest, Cowboy, Multi-gun/3 Gun and Steel Challenge.

Proposed Change states: Any and all firearm competitions held by the corporation shall be approved by the Board of Directors and governed by the rules and regulations laid down by the ruling body of the discipline conducting the competition.

  • BRC board of directors will have final say of disciplines/matches shot at BRC.
    • The rules have to fit what BRC is capable of providing.
  • Matches to be Governed by the Ruling body of discipline.

We are simply trying to update our rules on matches in our by-laws so that ALL the competitions BRC holds are compliant with our bylaws. The way it is currently written we are in violation and it prevents future growth of possible disciplines/competitions. We have also heard that the NRA is wanting to stop being a governing body for disciplines and the new rule prevents any further issues.

Please keep in mind Match Rules supersede Range Rules. What can be done in a match can’t always be done in practice on the range. They are two different things and have to be treated differently.

Governing Bodies of Disciplines is as follows:

  • Air Rifle: Civilian Marksmanship Program
  • Archery: World Archery Federation
  • Benchrest: World Bench Rest Shooting Federation
  • Black Powder: American National Muzzle Loading Association
  • Black Powder Cartridge: NRA BPC Silhouette Matches
  • Bullseye: NRA
  • CMP: Civilian Marksmanship Program
  • Cowboy: Single Action Shooting Society
  • High Power: NRA
  • Multi-gun: 3 Gun Nation is the main one.
  • Silhouette: NRA
  • Steel Challenge: Steel Challenge Shooting Association
  • Trap: Amateur Trap Shooting Association

I hope this helps and please ask if you have any questions.   Julie Wagoner, President
